What is A Business Broker?

How is a business broker different from a real estate broker? Real estate agents and brokers are experienced, state licensed professionals that focus primarily on the sale or leasing of residential or commercial property. Business brokers are highly experienced, state licensed professionals who successfully help business buyers buy, and business sellers sell.  Selling a business is quite different from selling a house, but both are governed by the Department of Real Estate!

WHO IS REX WALTERS, PH.D.?

Rex Walters is a licensed business broker helping both small business buyers and sellers in the Monterey Bay area. A member of the California Association of Business Brokers he is also the Managing Partner with Bay Area Strategic Group, a Santa Cruz, based management consulting firm specializing in the areas of strategic business planning and consultation for businesses, non-profit agencies, and entrepreneurial start-ups. In his spare time, Rex is an active member and small business counselor of the Santa Cruz Chapter of SCORE. SCORE is the counseling and mentoring arm in partnership with the Small Business Administration (SBA)

Rex specializes in smaller business sales and consulting, and has hands-on management consulting experience in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors. Previously functioning as the interim president of Coastal Sol Foods, LLC, Rex is also a founding Partner with Bay Area Strategic Group, a Santa Cruz, CA based management consulting firm specializing in the areas of strategic business planning and human resources for small to medium-sized businesses, non-profit agencies, and entrepreneurial start-ups. He served as Interim Executive Director of the Alliance of Communities for Sustainable Fisheries. He also is a former instructor at University of California, Santa Cruz, San Jose State University, and Chapman University. Rex has started seven successful small businesses from the ground up in and around Santa Cruz.
